He’s hurt her once, and terrified her. He holds her future in his hands. Can she trust him with her body too?
Desperate to escape her past and start over, Ashley McAllister cuts her ties with her old life and heads for the wild landscape of West Yorkshire, the perfect place to reinvent herself. And her carefully laid plans are working, until she encounters her nemesis—the one man she’d hoped never to see again—Tom Shore, the man she and a gang of thugs attacked and robbed, and who swore he’d make her pay. He owns the cottage she’s made her home and adores, and now he wants his pound of flesh. So he takes it.
Intimidated and beaten by her sexy and dominant landlord, and totally confused by her intense physical response to him, Ashley needs Tom to guard her secrets. But will he and his enigmatic and terrifying friend, Nathan Darke, allow her to leave her past behind and start again? Having survived her first explosive and humiliating encounter with Tom, Ashley struggles to get her new life back on track. But Tom wants her. His demanding, persuasive, sensual charm is almost irresistible, his mastery of her assured.
But—can she submit to Tom’s dominance? Should she? Ashley has escaped one violent and abusive relationship. Is she about to be sucked into an even darker and more dangerous liaison?

Excerpt

A long silence follows my little outburst. He doesn’t move, but I can feel his eyes on me. Watching, assessing. I wait for his next attack.

Instead, “He raped you? Kenny?” The question is soft, gentle.

I nod. “Yes. Twice.”

“Did you report it to the police?”

Ah, here we go. “No.”

“Why not?”

“I lived with him, slept with him, had sex with him regularly. Who’d have believed me that once or twice it was against my will? And… I was scared of him.”

He nods, doesn’t press me further, seems to accept this explanation. “I knew he was a vicious git. I saw the way he treated you that night. I just didn’t realise… I understand now why you were afraid of Nathan and me when we came to your cottage.” He hesitates, his gaze softening. “I’m sorry for that, and for the way I spoke to you afterwards. I was insensitive and cruel. You are safe here, with me. I hope you can believe that.” He reaches out, tips my chin up with his fingers, gently raising my eyes to his.

I hold his gaze, assertive Ashley back on her soapbox. “Yes, I do believe that. But only because you don’t fancy me. I’m too scrawny, ‘not enough to go around’ I think you said.” The bitter sting of those cruel, dismissive words still bites. Hard. Without thinking about possible consequences I press my point. “And I’m not having any more of that from you either. No more insults, no more belittling me with your personal comments. I won’t let you make me feel small again. Just leave me be, and if you’ve nothing nice to say about me then keep your opinions to yourself, please.”

Gently cupping my chin with his palm, he holds my gaze, his gorgeous eyes now warm, tender almost. And I see respect starting to dawn there. At last, he speaks, his tone low, serious. A hint of esteem there, just maybe.

“Well said, Ashley. You’re right, and I apologise. For the things I said to you, back then and just now. I was rude, cruel, and what I said wasn’t true. The truth is, you’re so lovely you take my breath away—especially naked.” He smiles, probably at my astonished expression—nothing he could have said to me in response would have surprised me more than that. Lovely? Me? My mind’s still turning cartwheels as he continues. “I’m not apologising for finger-fucking you, though, because I did ask. Maybe a bit late, but still… And you seemed to like that bit as I recall. And I’m not apologising for stripping you and spanking you, although I know probably I should. Nathan certainly thinks so. Trouble is, I enjoyed that part too much to be genuinely sorry now. And if you’ve done the research that I suggested you do you might start to have some idea why I enjoyed it. And why you did too. Do you have any idea why, Ashley?”

I shake my head, bewildered, completely lost for words now. Enjoyed it? He hurt me, terrified me. But a quiet little voice at the back of my head is quick to point out what else he did, afterwards, and how powerfully I responded. And how much more he could have done to me as I lay there helpless on my bed, offering no further resistance. But he didn’t. And Tom doesn’t push his advantage now, just as he didn’t then, he simply leaves me be with my thoughts.

He drops his hand, but his emerald eyes are still holding mine. “I shouldn’t have threatened you again just now, even in fun. Forgive me?” His low tone seems sincere, contrite even.

I do believe he means it. He must have decided to take my continued silence as assent because suddenly he’s all business again, his booted feet hitting the flags with a heavy thud as he gets to his feet. “I need to get off. I’ll be back around one, I’ve a Skype meeting scheduled with a supplier so I’ll see you then. Make yourself at home, have a good look round, try to find everything you need but if you get stuck or need to know anything text me. Oh, and just leave the ironing. Okay?”

Stunned at my success, and the tangible shift in our relationship, I can only nod. Assertive Ashley definitely has her moments. He grabs his jacket from a hook on the back of the door and winks at me on his way out. “Have a nice day, Ashley.” He clicks his tongue and the two dogs trot after him. A few seconds later I hear the Land Rover fire up and drive off, and I’m alone in his huge old house.

Here’s a nibble:

Following the death of her twin sister and the abuse of her sadistic ex-boyfriend, Lillian Gaines drove away from her home to flee her heart-wrenching grief. Exhausted, numb from sorrow, she drives into a snowstorm and ends up stranded on a Montana back road.

The last thing Doctor Mitchell Hoffstetter wanted was to put up a stranded motorist at his cabin, but seeing the bruises marring Lillian’s face stifles his irritation. He couldn’t help offering comfort when her grief kept her awake, and for all her sass and independence, she succumbed to his commands and touch without pause. They went their separate ways the next day unable to forget that one hour.

Mitchell soon discovers Lillian is living in the motel in town. He offers his garage apartment which leads to another opportunity to show she wasn’t as opposed to his dominance as she claimed. Lillian discovers a side of her she couldn’t control whenever Mitchell leveled one of those potent gazes her way and showed her ways of pleasure she never imagined she would embrace.

It takes a threat to Lillian’s life for Mitchell to admit his sassy, independent tenant and lover had found a way through his grief to his heart, but had they both waited too long to express their feelings or would he and their friends ride to her rescue in time for them to start over together?

This is book seven in the Cowboy Doms series but can be enjoyed independently.

Publisher’s Note: This contemporary western romance is intended for adults only. It contains elements of mystery, suspense, danger, sensual scenes, adult themes and power exchange. If any of these offend you, please do not purchase.

Now, take a bite, you know you want to:

(PG)

That evening, Lillian started a new painting off a picture she’d taken of Mitchell’s cabin, and was still immersed in putting that scene on canvas late the next day, Friday afternoon. Something about the rustic abode with its backdrop of ice crystal-draped trees and plume of smoke traveling up into the gray sky appealed to her. Before getting stranded there with him, the closest she’d gotten to roughing it was when she and Liana spent a week at a Colorado ski resort, complete with their own private hot tub and an indoor pool. She was quite proud of herself for handling the tight, drafty quarters, limited hot water and basic meals so well, not to mention her autocratic but considerate rescuer. Those off the charts orgasms likely lessened the memory of how uncomfortable those few days were.

The heavy clomp of feet tromping up the side staircase reached her ears as she noticed the time. It ceased surprising her how fast the hours flew by unnoticed when she couldn’t pull herself away from her work.

Mitchell’s irritated voice followed a sharp rap on the door. “Lillian, I need to talk to you.”

Even annoyed his deep baritone could deliver that warm rush she had never experienced with another man, and that irked her. Striding to the door, she flung it open with a glare. A shiver went through her, but whether from the cold air or the swirling emotion turning his hazel eyes more brown than green, she wasn’t sure. Reminding herself this was his place and she was staying here for free, Lillian lightened her frown and stepped back to let him in.

“What’s up? Did I disobey some unspoken rule of tenancy?”

Mitchell brushed by her, his sheepskin coat flapping open to reveal he was still dressed in slacks and a button up shirt, the attire she’d seen him wearing every morning as he left for the clinic. The fact she couldn’t help glancing out the window at exactly 7:30 a.m. every day this past week was another deviation from her character that puzzled her.

He turned to face her as she closed the door, fisting his hands on his hips. “No, you reneged on our bargain.”

Puzzled, Lillian searched her memory and then recalled the appointment she was supposed to make at his clinic, realizing he was right. Oops. She shrugged and offered him a self-deprecating smile. “Not on purpose. I meant to, but I started a new painting and completely forgot.” Instead of forgiving her, Mitchell narrowed his eyes, his reply amusing her even as it sent a small thrill trickling through her veins.

“Someone should have taken you in hand years ago.”

AUTHOR BIO:

I live in the Midwest with my husband and our dog, Oscar, a lovable Goldendoodle.  I love dogs, enjoy spending time with my daughter, babysitting dogs and kids, reading and working puzzles.  We have traveled extensively throughout the states, Canada and just once overseas, but I now prefer being a homebody.  I worked for a while writing articles for a local magazine but soon found my interest in writing for myself peaking.  My first books were strictly spanking erotica, but I slowly evolved to writing erotic spanking romance with a touch of suspense.  My favorite genre to read is suspense.

Who knows where pain ends, and pleasure begins?

The chance of a new life out in the wilds of the Yorkshire moors sounds too good to be true to shy musician Eva Byrne. Stifled and smothered within the cocoon of her brilliant academic career, Eva yearns for something different. Something real and exciting. Something she can feel.

Excitement. Passion. Pleasure. She finds that sexy, enigmatic Nathan Darke can provide all these and more when she moves into his home as violin tutor to his young daughter. But Eva’s sensual encounters with her demanding, domineering new employer quickly evoke her deepest fears, as he introduces her to the trauma of submission and marks her with his particularly dark brand of love.

But will Eva’s natural curiosity and thirst for new experiences be enough to withstand the sting of Nathan Darke’s exquisite touch? Will simple surrender be enough as he challenges her every inhibition, taking her on an erotic journey of self-discovery and liberation?

This book contains sexually explicit content which is only suitable for mature readers.

This novel was previously released as three separate books, Darkening, Darker and Darkest, in the series The Dark Side. In this volume the three books in The Dark Side trilogy are published as one combined novel, under a new title, Dark Melodies with new cover art, no cliffhangers and a HEA.

Excerpt 3 (clean)

“God, is it really that late?” I gasp.

“Yes. Time for your practical,” Mr. Darke says softly, leaning back in his chair. Stretching out his foot, he pushes my violin case toward me across the kitchen floor. “You promised me a demonstration of your…skills. By way of a job interview. Then we’ll decide if you’re a music teacher or not.”

Tired as I am, I know I can handle this. This is my moment. Without a word, I kneel by the violin case and carefully open the lid, then extract the instrument from among the folds of my chiffon skirt. Unclipping the bow from the lid of the case, I stand up. I draw the bow experimentally along the strings, just to hear the tone and make any minor tuning adjustments. I have a good ear, and with only minute twists of the keys on the neck of the violin it is perfect, ready to play.

“Any requests?” I ask.

“No, you choose.” He is still seated at the table, waiting. And apparently not expecting much.

Mrs. Richardson has been bustling around the sink, clearing up after our meal, but she also comes to sit back down, drying her hands. Even Barney has opened one of his eyes. All three settle themselves, watching me.

Stepping slightly farther back, away from the table, I stand facing my audience with the door open behind me. I place the violin under my chin, resting my face against it like a favorite pillow, and draw in one long breath. I let it out slowly, and again. My feet are planted firmly, about a foot apart. I am relaxed, grounded. In my element. Now, at least, this I am good at.

Leaning into the violin and closing my eyes, I start one of my favorite melodies, not really written for violin—but I think it works beautifully and I love it. The opening, evocative strains of Ravel’s ‘Boléro’ fill the room. I don’t need to look up or hear his sharp intake of breath as he recognizes the piece, to know that Mr. Darke is stunned. He didn’t expect this from me. I am glowing inside because I know, at last, I have him.

I hear a slight noise behind me and open my eyes to see Mr. Darke leaning slightly to see around me. Placing his index finger vertically across his mouth, he signals for quiet, then beckons with his hand. A little shadow slips around and past me.

A small girl—impossibly pretty, with long, straight dark hair—runs across the room, climbs onto his knee and puts her little arms around his neck. She looks sleepy and is wearing a long, pale pink nightie. Her feet are bare. He hugs her, whispers something in her ear that makes her smile, and he kisses her hair. Then they both turn back to me, silent, watching, listening intently as I continue to play.

Completely in my element, absolutely in control of my audience, the music, the instrument, I sway gently as I slowly, surely develop the piece. I build the melody, pouring my own energy into it, louder, faster, ever more compelling as my bow flies back and forth across the resin-heavy horsehair strings. Unerring, every note perfect, I feel the familiar pull of the evocative music and lose myself in it, completely alert but at the same time only dimly aware of my surroundings, my audience. I coax the music toward its crashing crescendo. I am so exhilarated, so pumped up I feel sure I can fly in that moment, but as the final note dies away I am also aware of feeling drained, as if my last dregs of energy were poured into that piece.

No one moves. No one speaks. In the silence that follows, I straighten and stand before them, violin in my left hand and bow in my right, both now pointed down at the floor. Raising my eyes, I meet Mr. Darke’s gaze.

His face is still, expressionless, but his beautiful dark brown eyes are warm, admiring, the passion of the piece not lost on him. I feel a clenching low down in my belly, glad that I have somehow affected him, touched him. We stare across the kitchen at each other for long moments before he finally comes to his feet, holding the little girl in his arms.

“Bravo, Miss Byrne,” he says softly, bowing his head to me. “That was superb.”

Find you are more hungry that imagined? Then you had better be prepared to buy the whole meal after you take a bite because it is SO DELICIOUS: (and it’s on KU)

Assertive Ashley makes one last-ditch attempt. “If I agree to this, if I let you spank me, it’s absolutely the one and only time. You’ll never lay a hand on me again after this.”

I stand my ground and he looks at me, his gaze assessing. And unexpectedly warm. His tone is soft when he speaks to me, almost caressing.

“If you say so. Well then, let’s see if we can release your inner submissive, just this once.”

I can’t contain my snort of disbelief. “I hardly think so. Inner doormat might be more like it. Inner punchbag maybe. But you’re wrong—I’m none of those things anymore.”

He shakes his head, his eyes never leaving mine. Despite my fear, my outrage at this madness that he’s apparently convinced me could actually happen, that look still curls my toes in a way Kenny never managed. I wish desperately that I’d met Tom Shore in different circumstances. Who knows, I might even have… No, I wouldn’t. Surely I couldn’t. Could I?

Not that he needs to know any of this. I hold his gaze, defiant, determined, my inner turmoil safely buried along with any treacherous inner submissive that might be lurking. His next words stun me.

“No, I agree. I don’t know what it is you think you’re not anymore, but what I have in mind has nothing at all to do with being a doormat or a punchbag. ‘Shaz’ might have been that once. I saw that much on the riverside in Bristol. But I suspect Ashley McAllister is something entirely different.”

What? What does he see in me that even I can’t recognise? How is this different? My puzzled frown just makes him chuckle softly, as though he knows something I don’t. Then, “Ashley, the robe?”

“Why? Why do I have to undress? Can’t you just…?” Assertive Ashley gives up the battle and I’m whispering, and now starting to shake again.

His tone hardens—there’s something more there now, an air of command, demanding obedience. “I want you naked. I want you scared, humiliated, hurting. Like I was. The robe, Ashley. Now.”

Out of options and done with words, I stand. I’ve accepted his ‘terms’ and now I just want to get this over with, get through it as best I can. At least now I know what’s in store, and I know I can survive it.

My hands shaking violently, I start to unfasten the belt holding my robe closed. I’m clumsy, fumbling, desperately embarrassed. Never an exhibitionist, never even remotely confident about my body, I don’t recall even Kenny seeing me completely naked. He was never that interested. My body’s no great shakes, five foot one and skinny as a rake. And I’m now finding my natural modesty is a powerful inhibitor. I can’t undress in front of this angry stranger any more than I can sprout wings and fly round the room. I stand there, clutching my robe closed. I can’t even look at him, though I can feel his eyes on me. I’m surprised to realise that stripping for him is more of a challenge than accepting the spanking was.

“I can’t. Please don’t ask me to do this.” My voice is quiet, tiny, a scared, pathetic whisper as I stand there, trembling, dreading the next few moments. I’ve never fainted in my entire life, but I suspect I could easily manage it now. This is his cue, surely. His one opportunity to tell me it’ll be okay, to promise not to hurt me. To say something, anything, that my so-called inner submissive might recognise and respond to.

Taking pity on my dilemma perhaps, he closes the distance between us, just a couple of paces in my tiny living room. I try to back away, but the chair is behind me, there’s nowhere for me to go. Surprisingly gentle, Tom Shore takes my hands, opening my fingers carefully to release my grip on the towelling. He takes the lapels, leaning in to murmur in my ear, “Don’t look so stricken, Ashley. This bit doesn’t hurt. And maybe, if you let yourself, you might find the rest of the experience less horrendous than you imagine.” I feel his breath on my neck as he pauses, then, “You might even enjoy it.”

And that’s it. Might even enjoy it! Fat chance! There are no more words of comfort on offer. If this is the best he can do my inner submissive will be staying well buried it seems. Good riddance—she’d only get me into more trouble.
