It’s hot, isn’t it?
Even in Southeast Alaska we have hit the 80’s and believe me, that is at least ten degrees TOO HOT. Texas is scorching but I hear there is more to come. Really? And you choose this heat on purpose? Well, this summer, I am one of the Texans and next summer I hope to be spending my summer season back in Alaska.
I am frantically working on two WIPs in different subgenres and one gives me relief from the other so I don’t burn out on either before they are completed. I am happy to say it is working for the most part. But that brings up a question, how much time should you devote to your business? Is there a healthy amount of time?
Personally, it is the most difficult issue for me because I’m a workaholic and when I love what I do, I am zoned for hours at a time. I sometimes have to force myself to give my family, who I love even more than my work, the time they deserve without being annoyed they have interrupted my scene.
But guess what I am discovering? When I am more balanced in my energies, I am a better writer and a better mother, wife, lover, daughter, friend. I’m still frustrated when I make myself leave my writing cave. I am working on doing just that, more often.
So, how much time is healthy? I don’t know that and I suspect it is variable. For now, I’m on the inside of coolness looking out on sunshine and waves of heat, writing. But I’m happy and I think THAT is the best indicator of all.
Hope the weekend is all you had hoped and more to come. Happy Reading!

She was as elegant as any aristocrat, sweet and naughty as a beloved child, and ferocious as a tiger. Amazon The Black Laird Requires
Cairistine Donohue had run away from Scotland to the Colonies to avoid an unbearable future. Now back in England her employment was unexpectantly terminated, leaving her alone with little coin and no prospects. Returning home was not an option. Faced with a life full of hard choices or starving, Cairis gratefully accepted the position of companion to Lady Ashton.
Cullen Black O’Leary dominated the seas, his business, and the lassies. Returning to England to survey his new estate, Cullen sought his escort, Cairistine Donohue. He found her trying to escape him with her red hair flowing and sweet sassy mouth telling him off. He had to take her as his own.
When Cairis’ dark secrets are revealed, threatening to ruin her and destroy their hope for a future, could she do what her Black Laird required of her to secure their future?
