Christmas Cheer

While Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year, I love Christmas because it is a time when my children and grandchildren are full of fun and the wonder of it all.

Take today for instance, we baked, laughed, sang, watched movies, wrapped, shopped, teased each other and visited together. Our favorite traditions are:

Read a wonderful book with a Christmas riddle called St. Nicholas and the Valley Beyond Hardcover – 1994 by Ellen / Burhans, Richard W. Kushner (Author).

Christmas Cream Tea for the ladies/girls in our family and that number has grown from 4 of us to 16 on some Christmases. This year we will have 11 counting the youngest granddaughter. The men have hot chocolate somewhere.

Then we have snacks for Christmas Eve dinner and the children open exchange gifts from names they drew on Thanksgiving. Grandparents (us-we started young, haha) make sure at least one gift is under the tree for each person.

Baking a Christmas cake for Baby Jesus and reading the Christmas story is wonderful and then all the darlings go home. We still have 4 at home so that will mean a Santa visit here still.

Finally, the children sleep in one room on Christmas Eve.

We live in the far North so I hope that you have wonderful snow if you want it and clear warm skies if you don’t. To my friends in Kiwi land and Down Under, I love that you celebrate in summer and I hope to share a holiday with you some year soon.
